Organisation

The Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences is part of the Faculty of Science at Utrecht University. Utrecht University is organized into seven faculties and several administrative services. These are led by the Executive Board and overseen by the Supervisory Board (Governance and Organization UU).

The Faculty of Science consists of six departments and various research institutes (Science Organization). The Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences consists of five divisions and has a department board and a divisional advisory committee. The research of these divisions is organized within the Utrecht Institute for Pharmaceutical Sciences (UIPS). The research and education fall within the central research themes of these five divisions: Pharmacology, Pharmacoepidemiology, Biomolecular Mass Spectrometry, Chemical Biology, and Pharmaceutics.

The responsibility for education lies with the different Schools. The undergraduate education of the Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences falls under the Undergraduate School of Science (UGS). The Master’s in Pharmacy falls under the School of Pharmacy, and the Master’s in Drug Innovation falls under the Graduate School of Life Sciences (GSLS). Each school has its own education committees (see intranet for the committees of UGS and GSLS, and the website of the School of Pharmacy).

Therefore, the education of the Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences falls under different Schools. The teachers of the Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences provide education for three programmes. The responsibility for the programmes lies with the Schools; the department is responsible for personnel and material resources.
The Bachelor’s in Pharmacy and the College of Pharmaceutical Sciences (CPS) fall under the responsibility of UGS. The programme director of the Bachelor’s program, Robbert Jan Kok, is ultimately responsible for both programmes, in collaboration with Lucianne Groenink, the programme coordinator of CPS.
The School of Pharmacy (ScPh) is responsible for the quality of the Master’s programme in Pharmacy. The director (Aukje Mantel-Teeuwisse) is supported in policy work by the secretary (Sanne Wiercx), who is also the contact person for ScPh. The director of the School is also the programme director of the Master’s programme in Pharmacy. The programme coordinator (Marianne Verdel) handles the daily affairs of the programme. The programme coordinator is the contact person for students and teachers of the Master’s programme in Pharmacy.
The Master’s in Drug Innovation, which falls under the GSLS, has a programme leader (Roos Masereeuw) and a programme coordinator (Monique Slijper).
All programmes are supported by the secretariat of the Pharmacy Educational Institute and the study points from the Department of Education and Student Affairs of the Faculty of Science.

The Education Management Team (EMT) of the programme consists of the programme director of the Bachelor’s programme (also the director of education), the programme director of the Master’s programme in Pharmacy, the programme coordinators of CPS and Drug Innovation, the education manager of the educational institute, assessor II of the study association Unitas Pharmaceuticorum, and a student member. The EMT meets regularly and coordinates the education and ensures the alignment of the different programmes.

Education & Student Affairs of the Faculty of Science provide support for education. There are study points and study advisors for students in each programme within the faculty. Study advisors work together with teachers and tutors in monitoring study progress data, reporting any complaints/issues, coordinating tutoring and student mentorship, and developing and maintaining the education policy. You can find the names of the contact persons and study advisors for the various programmes of Pharmaceutical Sciences on the website.
